About Me

I was born and raised in a small town in China. When I was a kid, my grandpa who was a painter, a calligrapher and also a poet would ride his bike which has a front mounted seat only for me to take me to these children drawing classes taught by his best friend. I never stopped drawing from then. The feeling of throwing your ideas from inside your brain to a piece of paper right in front of you brings me endless joy.

Later I went to Shanghai, a total metropolitan compared to the city I am from to attend college. I got a camera from my parents as a gift before I left home. I would walk around the city in my spare time and I started to capture different kinds of small moments on the street. I feel the desire of finding stories to tell inside me is getting stronger and stronger.

I eventually grounded myself in theatre because theatre to me is such a unique art form that gives more potential than anything else to make all kinds of voices heard. It is the place that offers space for a community to grow together, for people who are in the community to find inner connections between each other. And lighting for me is such a perfect combination of photography and drawing. I love the feeling of using lights to paint different pictures and form different compositions for the audience.

As a theatre maker, Iā€™m always interested in new works that breaks the boundaries of certain genre and any fresh interpretation of a classical. And I always want to and am ready to tell a story with YOU!
